Drive Time Driving Instruction, based in Bluffton and Findlay, has expanded its offerings to include Abbreviated Adult and From the Passenger Seat classes.

Abbreviated Adult
New drivers, over the age of 18, are not required by law to take driver’s education before taking the driver’s test. However, on July 1, 2017, a new law went into effect requiring new drivers over the age of 18 who have never had a driver’s license and who fail the driver’s test to take Abbreviated Adult driver’s education.

This training consists of a four-hour class and either four hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driver’s education instructor, or 24 hours of additional driving experience with a licensed driver over the age of 21.

Drive Time Driving Instruction is licensed to offer Abbreviated Adult driver’s education. The next class is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9, in Findlay. Behind-the-wheel training is scheduled in two two-hour sessions beginning in either Bluffton or Findlay and scheduled to be convenient for both student and instructor.

Adult who would like professional behind-the-wheel training before taking the driving test are welcome to take the four-hour driver’s training. However, if by chance the student subsequently fails the driving test, he or she will be required to take the Abbreviated Adult course. “We cannot guarantee that the student will pass the driving test after driving with us,” said training manager Sara Kisseberth.

From the Passenger Seat
New drivers under the age of 18 are required to drive at least 50 hours with a parent/guardian or licensed driver over the age of 21 before taking the driving test.

Drive Time has developed a 90-minute class to provide tips and tools for parents riding with their teen behind the wheel. This session covers new traffic laws and guidelines (10 and 2 is out), points of emphasis and tips for how to teach what is second-nature for experienced drivers.

“Our goal is to partner with parents to give teens the tools, knowledge and experience to make good decisions when on the road,” said Kisseberth.

Traditional teen driver’s education
Drive Time prides itself on providing quality and convenient driver’s education for high school students. “Our Sundays Only classes were developed to provide quality education for those busy students whose evenings are filled with practices or after-school jobs,” Kisseberth said.

Sundays Only classes are offered in the fall, winter and spring, in addition to the regular Flex classes which are six sessions scheduled over a two week period.
