Men's Soccer drops 3-1 decision at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped its HCAC opener at Earlham College by a 3-1 count on Saturday, Sept. 30. Bluffton slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-1 in the HCAC, while Earlham improved to 1-8 and 1-0 in the Heartland Conference.
The Beavers went toe-to toe with Earlham for over 55 minutes before the Quakers exploded for three goals in less than seven minutes. Senior Blake Hershberger (Canton/McKinley) knocked in a penalty kick with just under eight minutes to play but Earlham held on for the 3-1 victory.
Earlham finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots while committing 17 more fouls (21-4). The home team forced six of the eight corner kicks in the match. Freshman keeper Levi Smith (Bluffton) came up with eight saves for the Beavers.
Bluffton travels to long-time rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The Heartland Conference contest is slated for 3:30 p.m.
