Rose-Hulman holds off Men's Soccer 1-0
The Bluffton University men's soccer team put up a valiant effort against the HCAC-leading Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers, but the visitors held on for a 1-0 victory on a beautiful Saturday, Oct. 21. Bluffton slipped to 1-14 on the season and 1-6 in the Heartland Conference, while Rose-Hulman improved to 11-4-1 with a 6-1 mark in the HCAC.
Saturday marked Senior Day for Blake Hershberger (Canton/McKinley) and Adam Knott (Lima/Shawnee) who were honored, along with their parents, prior to kickoff.
Austin Webb found the back of the net in minute 34 and the Rose-Hulman defense did the rest. The Engineers finished with a 26-3 advantage in shots, including 9-2 on frame. RHIT forced 11 of the 12 corner kicks, while Bluffton was whistled for three more fouls (8-5). The visitors were called for offsides eight times.
Freshman keeper Levi Smith (Bluffton) racked up eight saves as Bluffton held Rose to one goal for just the third time in 12 meetings.
