University of Findlay bookstore hosts reading, book signing
The University of Findlay’s Ruscilli Family Bookstore in the Center for Student Life will host a reading and book signing with Dave Essinger, associate professor of English, on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
Essinger is a resident of Bluffton.
Essinger’s recent novel, “Running Out,” was published by Mint Hill Books in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has been featured in publications such as Men’s Health magazine and the Dayton Daily News.
The suspenseful story centers on a family’s survival following a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. The protagonist, a long distance runner, decides to leave his injured wife and child behind in order to seek help.
Essinger’s personal experiences and knowledge with running and writing inspired the idea for this book. Along with being a runner for years, he teaches and practices creative writing. His essay, “Hallucinating in Suburbia,” received notable mention in 2014 in The Best American Sports Writing, and was the winner of Sport Literate’s creative nonfiction contest.
This feature story has more details about Essinger and “Running Out.”
UF’s previous bookstores, which were located in the Alumni Memorial Union and on North Main Street, were consolidated into the larger Ruscilli Family Bookstore located in the newly opened Center for Student Life at 301 Davis St.
To take advantage of its additional space and to promote the works of other faculty, students and staff and UF guests, the bookstore intends to have more book signings and other public events in the future.
