Free income tax assistance
AARP volunteers are taking appointments for free income tax assistance this winter at Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, according to Tonya Meyer, center director.
The first day of tax assistance is Thursday, Feb. 1. The assistance will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 12. Assistance takes place at the center, 132 N. Main St., Bluffton, with appointments beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
Here’s how it works:
• The service is free for area seniors.
• Appointments are required; contact the center at 419-358-8971.
• Bring a photo ID, Social Security card and proof of insurance or Medicare
• Bring last year’s tax returns, SSA-1099 forms, W-2s, 1099s and any other forms received
• Persons who itemize taxes should have those calculated at the time of appointment
• Tax assistance will not be cancelled for bad weather unless the volunteers cannot make it to the center.
