Two former ONU staff talk about MLK visit to ONU
Former Ohio Northern University staff members Monty Siekerman and Alfred Cohoe will share their experiences about Dr. Martin Luther King's talk on the ONU campus in 1968 during a program at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in the Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton.
Bluffton Public Library will host a community conversation and free showing of the film Selma (2014) on March 21 at 5 p.m.
Before the movie, former Ohio Northern University staff members Monty Siekerman and Alfred Cohoe will share their experiences during Dr. King’s talk on ONU’s campus in 1968 (shortly before the events from the film took place).
Siekerman and Cohoe were featured in the Toledo Blade, Lima News, Findlay Courier, and the Bluffton and Ada Icons recently in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's visit to Ohio Northern University.
Bluffton University's Multicultural Student Organization (MSO), will also present before the film, and is led by B.U. faculty Tyson Goings. Student leaders will discuss the events leading to Dr. King’s march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. For more about Bluffton University's MSO, visit: https://www.bluffton.edu/studentlife/multicult/mso.html
After the community conversation, stay for the film and popcorn! Refreshments are made available by Bluffton Public Library, and due to space limitations, registration is required. Registrants who are under the age of 18 must have a permission slip signed by their legal guardian to attend, due to the film's PG-13 rating.
Registrants are welcome to attend the conversation at 5 p.m. even if they are unable to attend the film showing afterwards. Register by calling 419-358-5016, on our website, or at our front desk. You may also respond to this event on facebook.
