Bluffton’s town hall clock could soon have four modern faces in an update as the analog appearance will become digital later this month.

Four digital screens will replace the familiar hands and Roman numerals on the tower. The screens, in full color, offer several additional features:

• The digital time includes seconds, so the numbers showing the time will constantly move.

• The digital screens are actually marquees like the Bluffton High School sign at College and Main. This offers the village the opportunity to send messages over the clock’s face. Those messages will include weather alerts and even birthday announcements.

• A temperature reading is part of the new feature. The temperature will be listed below the time.

• The screens offer the capabilities to show videos. For example, the July fireworks can be shown from the clock faces. Sporting events can also be shown.

It has not yet been decided if the time will be in military time (24-hour feature as opposed to 12-hour feature). Also, it is not known if the temperature will be posted in the familiar Fahrenheit or Celsius.

A meeting scheduled for persons interested in learning more about the digital project and its many features takes place at the large Buckeye shelter house at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 1 (today).

(And you thought there wouldn't be an April Fool's story this year.)
