BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team struck first but Ohio Northern had the last laugh with a 10-3 victory on Thursday, April 26. ONU improved to 22-10 overall, while the Beavers dropped to 18-14 on the season.
Gregory singled and came around to score in the bottom of the first, however, the visitors answered right back with a score in the top of the second before opening it up with four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth for a 10-1 spread.
An RBI triple by Gregory plated Chase Lawniczak (Toledo/Whitmer) in the seventh and Jacob Latkofsky (Temperance, Mich./Ida) followed with a base knock that scored Gregory, but the Polar Bears limited Bluffton to one hit in the final two frames to nail down their 10-3 victory.
Austin Goetzman (Mount Vernon) went 2-of-4, while Gregory finished with three hits and two runs scored. Senior lefty Paul Frey (Kirby/Riverdale) dropped his first decision of the year after allowing eight runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings of relief. Freshman Hunter Mills (Etna/Watkins Memorial) fanned three batters in his third start of the year.
Bluffton is back in action on Saturday, April 28, when the Beavers welcome Rose-Hulman for a Heartland Conference double-header. The first game is slated for 12 p.m. Come out and enjoy some sun at Memorial Field as the Beavers have their sights set on a berth in the upcoming HCAC tournament!
