Sidewalk sales in downtown Ada Thursday-Friday-Saturday
By Monty Siekerman
FROM ADA ICON - Ada’s Sidewalk Sales will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a big Cruz-N-Ada car and truck show slated for Saturday.
Offering bargains, most local retail merchants will be open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. those three days. Restaurants, of course, will be open later for dinner.
What for many years was called Red Tag Sales has been expanded with more retailers participating and a car and truck show that will close Main Street for part of the day on Saturday so shoppers can view the special vehicles, pop in and out of stores looking for bargains, and take time to dine in town with restaurants offering American, Italian, Mexican, and Chinese fare as well as fast food.
Reichert’s Clothing has been a main stay of Red Tag Sales for many years. Again this year, Reichert’s will have a ton of racks outside the establishment offering sale prices. Some of the new stores in town will be open as well, including Dear Darling Boutique and Mercantile on Main.
Gallery for the Arts is like walking into an art gallery with a huge assortment of merchandise made by artists, mostly local, for that one-of-a-kind gift. ReStore will have extended hours, as well. This is a place where one can buy a sackful of gently used clothing for next to nothing, and check out the shelves on knick-knacks.
The outside grill at 302 will be fired up for lunches, a popular place to buy a sandwich (try their porky burger) and a drink and head for the Railroad Park for dining in a garden.
Main Street will be closed from 1-8 p.m. on Saturday for the car and truck show sponsored by the VFW. It could be the biggest car show ever in Ada. ONU and local businesses are making their parking lots available for the show and for those wanting to see the shiny vehicles.
How many cars are expected? It’s anyone’s guess at the moment, but the annual car show in the big VFW parking lot has outgrown its space. So the VFW and the Ada Chamber got together to combine the show with the sidewalk sales.
The VFW had 80 vehicles on display last year at the Post property. Members of the VFW have made a great effort to attract more cars this year for the show on Main Street. Will 100, 120, maybe 250 cars and trucks show up? We’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out.
