Carolyn Oberly was a 1950 Bluffton High School graduate
Carolyn Mae Oberly, 86, died Aug. 1, 2018, at her residence. Carolyn was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Earl and Leah (Cook) Matter. On Dec. 29, 1950 she married Wade Oberly who survives.
Carolyn was a 1950 graduate of Bluffton High School and was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Bluffton where she was active in the Women's Outreach. Carolyn was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star both in Bluffton and the Chapter 25 "Smiling Sam" Camping Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, camping and baking, especially apple pies.
Survivors also include four children, Barbara (Dean) Schmitz of Albany, Oregon, David Oberly of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, Beverly (Eddie) Shepler, Doug (Julie) Oberly both of Bluffton, seven grandchildren, Brandt Schmitz, Tamara (Adam) Moshofsky, Nick (Onalee) Shepler, Melissa Shepler, Tyler (Erin) Oberly, Lane (Jessica) Oberly, Kaleigh Oberly and eight great grandchildren.
Carolyn was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Oberly and special cousin who was more like a brother, Wayne Matter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bluffton. Pastor Jeremy Mann officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 - 6 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
