Three Beavers named athletes of the week

Three Bluffton University athletes were named players of the week in their sports.

Adam Duncan (Northwood, Ohio/Lake) scored all 13 points in Bluffton's 34-13 loss at No. 19 Trine and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams.

The junior drilled 25 and 34-yard field goals and kicked the extra point after he hauled in a 70-yard touchdown reception. Duncan also caught four passes for 114 yards, and finished with four kickoffs for 202 yards (50.5 AVG) and seven punts for 240 yards (34.3 AVG).

The Beaver football team (0-2, 0-0 HCAC) will travel to Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., on Saturday, Sept. 15, for a 2:30 p.m. start.

Freshman libero Brooke Kleman (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) averaged 5.59 digs per set for the Beavers last week and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on defense.

The defensive specialist picked up a career-high 35 digs against Heidelberg on Saturday as the Beavers hosted the Sommer Center Spiketacular and she followed that up with 31 against Ohio Northern. Kleman earned All-Tournament honors for her efforts at the home invitational.

The Beavers (2-6, 0-0 HCAC) make the short trip to Ohio Northern in Ada on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before traveling to Louisville, KY, for the Spalding University Invitational this weekend.

University senior Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) led the Beavers to a 3-2 victory over Hiram on Saturday afternoon and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week on offense.

Liming scored two goals and assisted on the other in the win over Hiram last week. The senior's direct kick with less than 10 minutes to play was the game winner. For the week, Liming tallied three goals and one assist as the Beavers went 1-1 with their first victory of the season. She currently leads the Heartland Conference with five goals and 11 points.

The Bluffton University Women's Soccer Team (1-3, 0-0 HCAC) will host Grace Bible College on Friday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
