Lions perform eye screens for 314 preschoolers
Lions throughout the state have been challenged to screen all children in the age group of 3 to 6 for eye pathology.
For the sixth year Bluffton Lions have been screening children’s eyes ages 3 and into kindergarten.
Local schools and day care facilities have been compliant in obtaining parental consent for this eye screening, making the volunteer process go quite smoothly.
This year the Bluffton kindergarten provided 102 students for the volunteers. Other sources were Allen East kindergarten and day care facility; Bluffton pre-school held at the Presbyterian Church; Hilty Day Care in Pandora; and County Line Children Developmental facility.
Screening started on Sept. 10, concluding Sept. 18 with 314 children screened.
Twenty-six of these children were referred to have an evaluation by their local optometrist.
