Women's soccer: Beavers and Heidelberg tie at 0-0
The Bluffton University women's soccer team battled with Heidelberg for 110 minutes and when the dust settled the scoreboard still read 0-0.
Both teams fired away, combining for 48 shots, including 21 on frame, but the net minders had the final say in a 0-0 tie. Bluffton moved to 1-6-1 on the season, while Heidelberg now stands at 5-4-1 heading into conference play. The Beavers improved to 1-11-1 all-time against the Student Princes.
Senior Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) and freshman Julia Gibson (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) led the Bluffton offense with five shots apiece, including three on frame for Liming and two on target for Gibson. Sophomore Sienna Sullivan (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) was sensational in goal, piling up 13 saves for the Beavers.
The visitors ripped 33 shots, compared to 15 for Bluffton. Heidelberg forced four more corner kicks (9-5) and both squads were whistled for just six fouls in the contest.
Bluffton kicks off Heartland Conference action with a long trip to Terre Haute, Ind., for a matchup at Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Sept. 29. The first match of a women's and men's doubleheader with the Engineers is slated for 1 p.m.
