Volleyball: Beavers drop first HCAC contest
The Bluffton University volleyball team fell to Transylvania in four sets on Sunday, Oct. 14. The end of Homecoming weekend was not kind to the Beavers who dropped their first Heartland Conference match of the season. Bluffton slipped to 12-11 overall and 4-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Transylvania improved to 11-9 and 5-1 in the HCAC.
Bluffton was up a set and leading 13-7 in the second when Transylvania turned the tables and never looked back. The Pioneers outscored Bluffton 18-6 to even the match at one set apiece before closing it out with 25-23 and 25-16 victories.
Sophomore Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) was back to form, ramming home a team-high 14 kills against just three errors for a .262 hitting percentage. Seniors Bethany Martini(Pickerington/North) and Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) checked in with 12 and nine kills, respectively. Wesigarber just missed out on a triple double with 43 assists and 13 digs.
Freshman libero Brooke Kleman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) topped the Beavers with 19 pickups. Courtney Zimpfer (Jackson Center) and Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) finished with 13 and 11 digs, respectively, while Martini chipped in with a dozen. Freshman Maddie White(Ashland) and Martini both stuffed the Pioneers with three blocks.
Bluffton jumps right back into action on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when the Beavers travel to Anderson University for a 7 p.m. Heartland Conference matchup with the Ravens.
