Nicholas Spurck 1937 - 2018
Nicholas H. Spurck, 81, of Arlington died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018. He was born in Galion, Ohio, on Jan. 3, 1937, to the late Hotch H. and Violet M. Spurck. Nick married Shirley A. Gibson on Aug. 27, 1960 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2011.
Nicholas is survived by his three children; Lisa Ann (Mardy) Herr of Bluffton, Jeffery L. (Collete) Spurck of Arlington and Virginia L. Gillespie of Arlington. Nick is also survived by two brothers; James and Jon Spurck; sister, Alice Spurck; four grandchildren: Nicholas D. (Luka) Spurk of Kenton, Brittany (Rick) Cherry of Wooster, Richard (Michelle) Spurck of Arlington, and Sam Herr of Dayton; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and
Mary.
Nick retired from Cooper Tire after many years of service. He was also a farmer and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Spurck was one of the five founding members of the Millstream Woodcarvers. He also served as a softball umpire for 30 years and taught hunter safety for 10 years. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, the Black Swamp Muzzleloader Club, the National Rifle Association and So Han Co.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crates Funeral Home, Arlington.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Good Hope
Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends for one hour (10 - 11) prior to the service.
Pastor John Dyer will officiate and burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
