Donald Etter, Pandora HS grad, served in WWII
Donald H. Etter, 91, of Pandora died on Nov. 20, 2018, at Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora. He was born on Dec. 6, 1926, to the late Rolla and Edna (Weller) Etter. On June 29, 1947, he married Joan Huser in a triple wedding ceremony with two of Joan’s sisters in Pandora. She preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2006.
Don graduated from Pandora High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After the military, he worked as a mechanic at Pandora Shell. Later, he drove truck for several different trucking companies before retiring from Signal Delivery. After retirement, he was a substitute bus driver for Pandora-Gilboa schools.
Don was a member of the Pandora United Methodist Church, Pandora American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Don enjoyed meeting with friends and townspeople at Pandora’s Lunch Box.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Jane) Etter of Pandora, Steven Etter of Ottawa; a daughter, Jodi (Tom) Gerdeman of Pandora; four grandchildren, Andrea (Erik Hoisington) Etter, Megan (Jordan) Guillen, Morgan (Damon Evans) Gerdeman, Garrett (Karissa Dorn) Gerdeman and a great-granddaughter, Emma Guillen. He is also survived by three brothers, Owen (Ermaleen) Etter of Pennsylvania, Roland (Sara Beth) Etter of Arkansas, Paul (Gayle) Etter of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Moser of Pandora and a many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Etter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 26, at Pandora United Methodist Church with Pastor Duane Kemerley officiating. Burial with military rites will follow the service at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Pandora.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 – 7 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice, Hilty Memorial Home or Pandora United Methodist Church.
