Work began today by Northwest Drilling on behalf of Dominion Energy on the Grob Betterment project, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

The project replacing roughly 1,500 feet of 2-inch steel and plastic mainline with an 8-inch plastic mainline.

Blackburn said that small amounts of new 2-inch, 4-inch and 6-inch plastic will also be used. The project is intended to provide increased gas flows to Grob.

The project begins at the intersection of Cherry and Geiger Streets and remains on the south side of Cherry until crossing to the north at 511 Cherry where the project ends.

This project will impact area residents in the following ways:

•  The new gas line will be bored under existing driveways and roads where possible, while other areas will use open cut trench excavation to install the new lines.

•  Sidewalks and roadway affected by the project will be temporarily restored until the weather permits permanent repairs.

•   Daytime road closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will occur along various sections of Cherry, Geiger and Greding from Jan. 4 until Feb. 21.  Traffic will be maintained for residents that live within the work area.
