It was a good night to be a Pirate. Senior Deandre Nassar became just the fourth Pirate grappler to reach 150 career wins and the team swept a tri match defeating Cory-Rawson 49-27 and Delphos St Johns 58-21.
Nassar worked his way to a 13-4 victory in the first match of the night for the Pirates. His opponent, Chase Martin of DSJ, didn’t make it easy on Deandre but Nassar was never threatened.
Three of Martin’s four points in the match came from escapes that Nassar allowed on his own measure. Two third period takedowns enabled the comfortable final score.
In the second match where Nassar got to career win #150, Deandre pinned Cory- Rawson’s James Miles in the first period setting off huge cheers from the Pirate faithful in the stands. Nassar was leading 13-2 in the first period when he was able to pick up Miles, throw him down and then get in position for the pin.
Nassar joins an elite list of Pirate wrestlers who eclipsed 150 career wins. Josh Falk (179), Zach Wilson (173) and Kyle Begg (156) are the only others to achieve the mark. Three time state champion Mark Falk finished his career with 144.
The rest of the Pirate crew enjoyed their evening as well. Landen Luginbuhl, Jeremy Sturgeon and Josh Mehaffie all won a match by pin. Jesse Montel , Jackson Wilson and Elijah Conley went 1-1 on the night and Dustin Mortimer and Elias Mault dropped their only. Match.
Due to low competition numbers, Trent Howard, Tayton Kleman and Kaden Basil did not get the opportunity to wrestle.
The Pirates will next compete in the Northwest Conference meet Saturday at Allen East.
