Bluffton native Terry Marshall Memorial Day speaker
Bluffton observes Memorial Day on Monday May 27, according to the Bluffton American Legion Post 382.
Parade
A parade forms at 9:15 a.m. at the Bluffton town hall and moves out at 9:30 a.m., ending at Maple Grove Cemetery. The service at the Cemetery begins at 10 a.m.
Maple Grove
Bluffton native Terry L Marshall, retired U.S. Naval officer, is the speaker at the Maple Grove ceremony following the parade.
Marshall is well-known in Bluffton. He is a 1960 Bluffton High School and 1964 Bluffton College graduate. He was a life guard at the Bluffton swimming pool, teaching many youth to swim in the early 1960s. In Boy Scouts he earned the Eagle Scout and God and Country awards.
Commissioned as an Ensign in the Supply Corp of the Navy in 1965 he served for 20 years, retiring in 1985. Following his retirement from the Navy he worked with Hamilton Standard, Hartford, Conn., in contract administration and with the Mathias Foodsevice Equipment Co., Leesburg, Fla., until his retirement in 2015.
Chicken barbecue
The Legion will hold its annual chicken barbecue in the Citizens National Bank parking lot on Main Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Price per ticket is $8.50. Tickets are on sale in advance on Saturday at the Bluffton Farmers Market.
In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Day ceremonies will be held in the Bluffton Middle School, 116 S. Jackson St.
Golf scramble
Also, the Legion Post will be holding its 10th annual charitable golf scramble Saturday, June 1, at the Bluffton Golf Course.
