Carolyn Rettig was retired from Cory-Rawson school cafeteria
Carolyn Elizabeth Rettig, 82, of rural Bluffton, died at 5:54 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Carolyn was born on June 15, 1937, in Dola, Ohio, to Willard and Fairy (Wilch) Neff. She graduated from Cory-Rawson in May 1955.
On Aug. 7, 1955, she married Gerald E. Rettig. They had two children: Steve (Laura Donnelly) Rettig of Kenton, and Sheryl Rettig of Bluffton. Carolyn is also survived by her grandchildren: Lauren (Travis) Hare, Tyler Amos, Courtney (Caleb) Breitigam, Kelsey (Mason) Waltz, Cody Amos, Dillon Amos, Peyton Rettig, and Carly Amos; brother-in-law, Roger Ruffell; sister-in-law, Sharon Rettig, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws: John and Verna (Gehron) Rettig; brothers: Jimmy and Richard Neff; sisters: Mary Johnson, Janice Redick, Ruth Ann Ruffell, and Esther Neff; brothers-in-law: Norman and Herbert Rettig, Norman Johnson, and Ralph Redick; and sister-in-law: Beulah Griffith.
Carolyn retired from Cory-Rawson Schools where she worked in the cafeteria. Prior to this, Carolyn had a cake and candy business called Carolyn's Sweet Shop. She and her sister-in-law, Sharon Rettig, made wedding cakes.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 14, 2019, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington. The funeral service will be on Monday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Jenera, with one hour of visitation prior to the service (10-11 a.m.). Pastor Steve Edmiston will officiate, and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Building Fund or the donor's charity of choice.
