NW Physical Therapy 5-K benefits hockey team
Northwest Physical Therapy, with an office in Bluffton, will hold its 10th annual Poker Run 5K Run/Walk for Charity to benefit the Northwest Ohio Arctic Wolves sled hockey team. The hockey team started in August 2014.
Sled hockey is the same as stand-up ice hockey, but is for people with physical disabilities that prevent them from being able to stand and play. A sled and two short sticks with picks are used to propel the player on the ice. Sled hockey is a paralympic sport and in 2014, our USA Men’s National team took the gold in Sochi.
Anyone from age 5 and up, who has a physical disability is welcome to join the team. Practice is held on Sunday from 10-11 a.m. at the BGSU Arena. The season starts in September and goes through mid-April. The league is competitive and includes travel to tournaments in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York and Canada.
The 5K race is Sunday, Oct. 27. Registration is at 1 p.m., race at 2 p.m. and will take place at the Car-E-It 1206 E. Main St., Ottawa, on the back patio. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Arctic Wolves Sled Hockey Team.
Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be awarded. Registration is $20 and forms are available for download by visiting www.NorthwestPhysicalTherapy.com.
