Bluffton women shutout Defiance
The Bluffton University women's soccer team traveled to HCAC rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Oct. 9, for a mid-week matchup against the Yellow Jackets. The Beavers secured a 2-0 shutout over rival Defiance. Bluffton improved to 4-7 (1-1 HCAC) on the season while Defiance dropped to 4-8-1 (0-2).
Less than five minutes into the match, junior Maddie Huffman (Maineville/Little Miami) netted her third goal of the season to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead. A penalty kick by freshman Zoe Ryan (Pleasantville/Lancaster) secured the 2-0 Beaver shutout.
Bluffton put up 17 shots for the match, compared to Defiance's eight. Both teams forced one corner kick, but the Beavers were whistled for two more fouls (8-6). Junior keeper Sienna Sullivan (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) had two saves in her third victory of the season in goal. Ryan paced the Bluffton offense with five shots on the afternoon.
The women are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Franklin College. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.
