Beavers stop Lions
The Bluffton University volleyball team welcomed Mount St. Joseph to Copeland Court on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. The Beavers were able to hold off the Lions for a four-set (30-28, 25-23, 21-25, 25-14) victory. Bluffton improved to 5-18 (1-3 HCAC) on the season while Mount St. Joseph fell to 12-9 (1-3 HCAC).
Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) powered the Beaver offense, hammering home a new career-high 24 kills while hitting at a .308 pace. Fellow junior Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) and Carley Lester (Chesapeake) both knocked down 14 and 11 winners, respectively. Lester's 11 spikes equaled her career high and she was red hot, hitting .435 with just one error! Sophomore setter Maddie White (Ashland) also set a new career high, dishing out 53 assists in the victory.
Sophomore Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the Bluffton defense with 27 digs. Bower also pitched in another career high with 16 pickups. Freshman defensive specialist Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) picked up 13 digs and fired two aces for the victors. White added 16 digs, while Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) came up with 13.
The women are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19, as they welcome Hanover College and Otterbein University for a weekend tri-match. The games are slated for 2 p.m and 6 p.m.
