SR 309 intersections at Thayer and Napoleon roads targeted for redesign

Public meeting Wednesday at Allen East schools

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 will hold a public meeting to share proposed safety improvements for the intersections of state Route 309 at both Thayer and Napoleon roads, east of Lima­.

The meeting is  at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22,in the cafeteria at Allen East Local High School, 9105 Harding Highway, Harrod.

The meeting will begin with a presentation, followed by an open discussion and questions from the public. Several exhibits of the proposed improvements will be available for viewing following the presentation. The meeting is expected to conclude by 8 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed project and to solicit public comments regarding the proposed improvements.

ODOT and its consultant on the project, Jacobs Engineering Group are conducting a study of the intersections and evaluating options to improve their safety and operation. Single-lane roundabouts are among the options being considered for the intersections.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2022.

Statewide, more than 150 rural, suburban and urban intersections have been for review and safety improvements. Improvements range from signal and signage improvements to a complete intersection redesign.

The state Route 309 intersections with Napoleon and Thayer roads in Allen County were identified on the list as locations where projects held good potential of improving safety.
