Bluffton 4-H Cattle Club plans July 19 barbecue
By Elizabeth Phillips, club reporter
Hi my name is Elizabeth Phillips the Bluffton Cattle Club’s News Reporter. Our club has 18 members. Our first meeting was held at the Richland township house on Feb. 16, 2020. That is where we nominated members for different roles. The President is Grace, the Vice President is Riley, the secretary is Clair, the treasurer is Britney, the Health Reporters are Landon and Branson, our Safety Reporters are KJ and Sophie, the Recreation Leaders are Greta and Zoe, the Flag Bearers are Klara and Parker.
Klara is in charge of the American flag and leads the Pledge of Allegiance. Parker is in charge of the 4H flag, and he leads us in the 4H Pledge. The 4H Pledge is:
“I pledge my head to clearer thinking, My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service,
And my health to better living,
For my Club, my Community, My Country, and my World.”
Since our first meeting, due to COVID our other three meetings have been held virtually on Zoom. We have had our virtual meetings on April 11, May 3, and June 7. Virtual meetings in my opinion are less interactive than when we meet in person.
In person meetings you can have snacks and activities together and talk easier with each other. When we do virtual meetings it can be difficult to understand people when they are talking. I am looking to our next meeting when we can meet in person, it is on July 12. We are planning to meet at Riley’s house and have a cookout. A lot of demonstrations I bet will go better because it is easier to see in person than on a screen.
Last meeting the club decided to donate $200 to the Ronald McDonald House. We also considered places we could go for our club trip. One option was a dairy farm, and the other was the State Fair. Right now our club trip is undecided.
At our recent meeting we discussed having a chicken barbecue to support the Bluffton Beaverdam Buyers Group. We will have this barbecue at Bubba C BBQ in Bluffton on Sunday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each club member will sell tickets for the dinner at $8 each.
Thank you for reading my first report. Stay tuned to learn more.
