Pearl Lewandowski opens season with a tennis win

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team served up its opener with a 4-1 loss to visiting Celina Monday.
Senior Pearl Lewandowski posted the lone Lady Pirate win in three tough sets at third singles. She defeated Grace Schneider 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-5.
Senior Julia Smallcombe won her first set in a tiebreaker (7-4) at first singles, but then dropped 12 of the next 13 games to lose in three sets.
Others competing for Bluffton were senior Olivia Barnes at second singles, seniors Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickel at first doubles, and freshmen Caitlyn Couch and Brooke Camper at second doubles.
The Lady Pirates (0-1) play at Shawnee Tuesday, August 11 at 4:30 p.m.
