Bluffton golfers first Beaver team to play since March
The Bluffton University men's golf team had the honors as the Beavers were the first team to compete since the baseball and softball teams played their spring games in Florida during the fopening week of March.
Following a worldwide shutdown due to COVID-19, the Bluffton men were excited to get back to work when they traveled to the Mohawk Golf and Country Club on a beautiful Thursday, Sept. 3.
The dual match saw both Tiffin and Bluffton sport two squads for the 2020 lidlifter. Sophomore Evan Kujawa (Toledo/Whitmer) picked up where he left off last fall, topping the Beavers with an 81 on Thursday. Junior Dominic Castelvetere (Ontario) was just three strokes off Kujawa's pace with an 84. Freshman Dharmarak Dawrat from Nonthaburi, Thailand and Nick Offenburger (Lexington) checked in with identical scores of 85. Rounding out the top scorers for the Beavers were junior Spencer Daniels (Ashland) and Nathan Eberle (Grove City) who both tallied 87's at the season opener.
Tiffin took top honors with team scores of 322 and 329, but Bluffton battled the NCAA Division II squad, posting a 340 and 352 at Mohawk.
Bluffton will be back on the links next Wednesday, Sept. 9, when it travels to the Legacy Golf Club for the Lourdes Invitational one day after the women kick off their 2020 season at Lourdes.
