Beaverdam resident Fred Andrews, a World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sept. 27.

Thanks to efforts of Kenzie Dauterman, a Bluffton High School junior, Fred had his share of birthday cards.

Kenzie teamed up with 7th grade science students in Robin Ault’s classes. The student created 100 birthday cards for the Beaverdam veteran.

To top off the birthday, a drive-by honk and salute parade for Fred took place on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a starting point of Thirsty’s Food and Spirits, Main Street, Beaverdam.

According to WWII veteran statistics, of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II approximately 389,000 are still living.
