Interviewed by Derek Swartzlander
Icon: You graduated from Bluffton in 2019. What have you been doing since then?
The past two years after graduation I have been attending Cedarville University, majoring in Accounting and Finance.
What are your goals after you graduate?
After graduating I hope to find a job or career that allows me to travel and see more of the United States and the world. Starting a business is also one of my top goals after I graduate, but it may take a few years of gaining experience before that happens.
What is your favorite memory of college so far?
My favorite memory from college so far has to be when I first started making friends here at Cedarville University. Having the best college experience is impossible if you don’t have a great group of guys to live it with.
What has something that has surprised you about becoming an adult?
Probably the most surprising thing is the responsibility of becoming an adult or college student. High school has a much more structured system of education. In college, you basically get to choose whenever you want your classes to be, or whether to show up to class at all. A higher level of responsibility is required to be successful in college and in life.
Who are some of the teachers at Bluffton who inspired you?
Lots of teachers had a big impact on me and inspired me to be the person I am today. However, a couple that top the list are Coach Boblitt, my robotics teacher, as well as my coach for two years, and Mr. Herr, who first taught me real accounting principles and helped push me towards the major I am in now.
What was your favorite athletic experience at Bluffton?
My favorite athletic experience was probably junior year when we won district finals in soccer. The atmosphere was incredible and the amount of time and energy we put into that season to get to that point was the most work and most fun I’ve ever had.
What is the worst movie that you’ve ever watched?
The worst movie I’ve ever watched has to be Hush. I hate horror movies and a couple of my buddies at college made me watch it, which was a big mistake.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation, having the ability to think of a place and teleport there would be by far the best practical superpower to have.
If you could meet any person, living or dead, who would you choose?
I would choose Solomon from the Bible. I think the wisdom he has and the lessons he teaches would be a huge benefit to living my life the right way.
Do you have any advice for high schoolers today?
My advice for high schoolers today is to enjoy the high school experience fully. You’ll never have another time in your life that you get to experience all of the thrills of life with everyone who you grew up with.
Thanks for the interview. We look forward to seeing your future.
