Need a good barbecue sauce?
FROM ADA ICON - Steve Arnold and Brian Clum go way back.
"We met in Kindergarten at Allen East," laughs Brian.
Mrs. Dickey was their teacher that year, and it was 1974-75. They played T-ball together and were in Lafayette Cub Scout Pack 11 together.
Spending each high school year together, Steve was Brian’s best man in Brian and Kelly’s wedding in 1990.
As they went their own paths, they stayed in touch. And, this winter their paths crossed again.
Steve, now a resident of Willow City, North Dakota, has created a series of competition barbecue products under the brand name Arnold’s Misfit Acres.
His products are now available for sale at 3 Brothers Family Pizza, Ada’s downtown pizza shop, 105 S. Main St., owned by Brian.
Products include:
Three barbecue rubs:
• Miss Katie’s BBQ Rub
• Arnold’s Prairie Dust
• Joltin’ Josh’s Coffee Rub
And:
• Lil’ Bird Dog BBQ Sauce
• Mischievous Mustard
• Due North Fish Batter
Steve, a nurse practitioner, says that he started playing around with sauce about nine years ago and made the leap to commercial sales five years ago.
In 2019, Miss Katie’s BBQ rub was named the best medium barbecue sauce in a national competition in Louisiana. The Mischievous Mustard took best mustard award at the World Hot Sauce competition.
The products range in prices from $6.50 to $8.50 per container.
“Our sauces are in store across North Dakota,” said Steve, “But, It’s a big deal to get something back home.”
Patrons of 3 Brothers Family Pizza will find the six products on the main counter.
