More reasons to visit the library in April

Lots of Zoom programming and, yes, the library is open to patrons

Bluffton Public Library released its April programming and here’s what patrons can look for this month:

Origami Live!: Mai Hirashita, Japanese Outreach Initiative (JOI) Coordinator for BGSU, will lead a live teaching session of origami on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. This program is open to all ages and will take place via Zoom. Receive an origami paper Take & Make kit through Curbside Pickup and visit the library website or email [email protected] to register and receive the Zoom link.

Noon Book Group via Zoom meets April 7 to discuss Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.  The book to be discussed on May 5 is The Widows by Jess Montgomery and will include a Q&A session with the author. To register, and for the most up-to-date information, email [email protected].

Homegrown Nature: The Benefits of Healthy Ecosystems and How to Make Them with Dan Hodges of Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District: On April 15 at 6:30 p.m., celebrate Ohio Native Plant Month and discuss the benefits of native plants and fostering healthy nature where you live. As natural habitats are degraded or destroyed, homemade habitats are becoming more and more critical. Register for this virtual program by emailing [email protected] and receive the Zoom link.

Virtual Family Trivia Night: On April 20 at 6:30 p.m., Ms. Lauren will host a Family Trivia Night using Kahoot and Zoom (two mobile devices and/or laptops/computers are required for gameplay.) Family groups may consist of six members or less, and questions are all family friendly. Register by emailing [email protected] by April 16 and receive instructions by email.

Facebook Live Bedtime Storytime: Join us live on Facebook to listen to stories with a Spring theme. Miss Esther will read live on the following dates and times: April 12 and 26 at 7 p.m.

The library continues The Book Bag - A Library Subscription Service. The program allows community members to request a monthly themed or specially curated bag of items from the library collection along with an activity. The Book Bag checks out for four weeks, with new bags being automatically prepared for pick-up the next month. If you haven't registered yet, no problem. Visit the library’s website www.blufftonpubliclibrary.org/book-bag or call the library for more information. This program is open to all ages.

Bluffton Public Library Postcard Penpals (Readers advisory for PreK-12th Grade): Not sure what to read next? We are here to help! Email Youth Services ([email protected]) the following information: name and address (for library use only), age, grade, and favorite book. Your child will receive a postcard of ideas for their next read.

“Take & Make” Activity Kits

Spring Creativity Kit: Every 4-6 weeks the library will put together a fun Creativity Kit full of crafts and activities for your favorite Pre-K - 5th grader. Don't miss our Spring edition available for curbside pick-up throughout April and while supplies last.

Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) with your library. Earth Day Activity Packs for children are available April 17-22 via curbside pickup or by visiting the library. The packs have various activities focused on how to take care of our Earth.

Returns continue to be made in the outdoor book drop, and browsing patrons who decide not to check out an item they have touched are to place those items on designated tables in order to quarantine them.
