Bluffton boys soccer bests Knights, 3-1

The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team defeated Van Buren 3-1 in a non-league match Tuesday night.

Bluffton improved to 5-2-1 with the victory. The Black Knights dropped to 3-2 with the defeat.

VB scored the first goal 4:37 into the fray.

But Bluffton tied it quickly on a Nolan Hoffman netter just 1:56 later on an assist from Ethan Oglesbee.

The game stayed 1-1 into halftime and beyond. Junior Hoffman then gave the Pirates the lead on a goal at the 60:08 juncture off an assist from senior Kaden Basil.

Pirate senior Jude Spallinger put the game out of reach with a penalty kick goal at the 66:25 mark.

Bluffton fired four of its 11 shots on goal, with all four of them finding the back of the net. VB got off eight shots, three of which were on goal.

Pirate sophomore keeper Kyle Basil was credited with two saves in goal.

Bluffton plays at WBL rival Kenton (4-0-3) Thursday, Sept. 16. The Wildcats tied Celina 1-1 Tuesday night.
