Pirate boys swamp Lancers
The Bluffton boys soccer team tallied five goals in the first 19 minutes and cruised to an 8-1 win over visiting Lincolnview in a Northwest Conference mismatch Monday evening, October 4. (VIDEO https://youtu.be/bD2jKsbeQNM)
The ninth-ranked Pirates improved to 10-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the NWC with their fifth consecutive victory. Bluffton has also now won 34 NWC matches in a row.
The Lancers fell to 4-9 and 2-2 in the NWC after the defeat.
Pirate Jude Spallinger scored two quick early goals at 4:30 and 7:14 on assists from Nolan Hoffman.
Bryan Zimmerman tallied the third score on a pass from Spallinger at the 11:27 mark.
Hoffman extended the lead to 4-0 on a pass from Spallinger. Ethan Oglesbee made it 5-0 at the 18:46 juncture
Spallinger scored his third goal, all on assists by Hoffman, to advance the margin to 6-0.
Luke Shepherd made it 7-0 as he found the back of the net on a dish from Theo Andreas at the 66:30 juncture.
Lincolnview tallied its lone goal on an Ethan Crow shot at the 72:45 mark.
Pirate Jayden Smith netted the final goal with 60 seconds left to provide the final margin of seven.
Bluffton put 21 shots on goal, nine of which were on target. Lincolnview got off just one shot vs. the Pirate defense, Crow's shot that went in.
Pirate keeper Kyle Basil made no saves in goal. The Lancer keeper was credited with seven stops.
The Pirates, 7-1 on the road, visit perennial power Ottawa Hills (6-0-3) Thursday, Oct. 7. Against their only common opponent, OH whipped Riverdale 8-1 on August 28. Bluffton beat the Falcons 3-2 last Saturday.
