Pirate boys lose to Shawnee

The Bluffton boys soccer team lost 3-1 to visiting power Shawnee in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon, October 9, at Steinmetz Field. VIDEO https://youtu.be/ynuo1igBDzg

With the loss, the record of the ninth-ranked Pirates fell to 10-3-2. Western Buckeye League leader Shawnee improved to 12-1 with the victory.

Indian junior Sam Tenwalde netted the first goal 23 minutes into the contest. Junior Austin Miller then extended the Shawnee lead to 2-0 with a goal at the 32:22 juncture.

The score remained 2-0 into halftime.

Then 9:14 into the second half, Tenwalde scored again to give the visitors a 3-0 cushion.

Nolan Hoffman tallied the lone Pirate goal at the 50:46 mark. Bluffton put two of its seven shots on goal. The Indians got off 14 shots vs. the Pirate defense, six of which were on target.

Pirate keeper Kyle Basil made four saves in goal. The Indian goalkeeper was credited with two stops.

The Pirates host Kalida (7-5-2) in a non-league match Thursday, October 14 at 6:55 p.m.
