Earlham knocks off Bluffton 2-1

The Bluffton University women's soccer team cashed in only once in a 2-1 loss to Earlham College on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Bluffton fell to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference, while an Earlham squad that was 13 strong improved to 2-9 with its first HCAC win of the season.

Jenna Hoeh collected a feed from Nicole Burkett less than 10 minutes in and scored just the fourth goal of the season for the Quakers. Bluffton notched the equalizer late in the first half when freshman Rilynn Kaufman (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) connected with junior Staci Bienko (Perrysburg/Eastwood), making it 1-1 at the break.

The visitors went up 2-1 in minute 51 when Hoeh's corner kick found Tess Cunningham for her third tally of the season and what turned out to be the game winner.

Bluffton finished with a 16-14 edge in shots. The Beavers fired four more corner kicks (6-2) and they were whistled for one more foul (9-8).

Bienko fired a team-best six shots, while Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) and Emma White (St. Marys/Memorial) chipped in with three apiece. Brielle Collier notched four saves on Wednesday afternoon.

The Beavers are back on their home pitch for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 17, when they host Anderson University. Kickoff with the Ravens is slated for 1 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
