Pirates shut out Ada, take 2nd in NWC girls soccer
The host Bluffton girls soccer team ran out to a big early lead and went on to blank local rival Ada 5-0 in the Northwest Conference finale Wednesday evening, October 13, at Steinmetz Field. VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7ZYuUbgago
The Pirate girls improved to 11-3-1 overall and 5-1 in NWC play with the convincing makeup game victory.
Defending league champion Bluffton finished second in the league standings to Columbus Grove (6-0).
Injury-plagued Ada dropped to 2-10-1 and 0-5-1 in the NWC after the loss.
Bluffton built a 4-0 lead in the first 17 minutes and cruised to victory.
Pirate Riley Eachus scored in the very first minute off an Allison Diller assist to get the hosts off to a good start.
Diller then netted the second goal on a return assist from Eachus in the fourth minute.
Eachus scored again in the seventh minute to advance the lead to 3-0.
Marley Kindle extended the margin to 4-0 with yet another goal in the 17th minute. The score stayed that way into halftime 23 minutes later.
Sami Scoles tallied the final goal just under five minutes into the second half to provide the final margin.
The Pirate offense bombarded Ada with 82 shots, 33 of which were on goal. The Bulldogs got off just one shot, which was on goal.
Pirate junior keeper Julia Mehaffie made one save in goal. Ada senior keeper Olivia Green was credited with 27 stops.
The third-seeded Lady Pirates will host 10th-seeded Mansfield St. Peter's Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. in Div. III sectional play.
