Anderson men score 2-0 shutout on Senior Day
The Bluffton University men's soccer team had its school-record three-match HCAC winning streak snapped by Anderson University on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021. The Ravens ruined Senior Day as they improved to 7-6-2 and 4-0-2 in the conference. Bluffton fell to 7-5 and 3-3 in the Heartland.
It was a heavyweight battle between two of the top teams in the conference on a beautiful day for soccer at the Sears Complex. The teams went back and forth for 60 minutes before Victor Silva found Art Hinton IV for a 1-0 Anderson lead and what turned out to be the only goal that mattered. Silva hit Matthew Murray in minute 77, giving the Ravens a crucial 2-0 road victory.
Sophomore Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) led the Beavers with four shots, including three on frame. Senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) and freshman Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) chipped in with three shots apiece. Freshman Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) turned back seven Anderson shot attempts.
The Ravens fired away with a 24-11 advantage in shots and they were called for nine more fouls (15-6). Both teams forced six corner kicks in the Sunday clash.
Bluffton is back on its home turf for a 3:30 p.m. meeting with Franklin College on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021.
