October Board of Education meeting notes

The Bluffton Board of Education met in the Elementary School media center on October 18 with an audience of nine including the Bluffton Icon.

Among contracts approved by the board was bus driver Deborah Hilty, hired for a 60 day trial period at 4 hours per day.

Middle school principal Josh Kauffman noted that amidst the tight hiring market for drivers, that “knock on wood,” the Bluffton schools are in good shape with drivers and substitute drivers.

In other business, a $5,000 donation by Toledo businessman Ford B. Cauffiel was accepted. For 17 years Cauffiel has supported the SOS Tutoring program in which  high school students assist elementary school students after school, primarily tutoring them in math.

The technology report noted that the leading issue with Chromebooks going from school to home is students misplacing power supply cables.

The next meeting of the Board of Education is at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 15, at the Elementary School, 102 S Jackson St.
