MSJ takes down Beavers in four sets
The Bluffton University volleyball team struggled with Mount St. Joseph serving in a four-set loss to the Lions on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021. Bluffton fell to 9-16 overall and 1-5 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved 15-8 and 5-1 in the HCAC.
Bluffton came out like gangbusters in the opener, taking down the mighty Lions, 25-20. Sets two and three both went in favor of the visitors by identical 25-15 scores before the Mount moved to 5-1 in the conference with a 25-16 exclamation point in the capper.
Junior Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) continued her impressive work with eight kills against just two errors for a .240 hitting percentage. Senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) and freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) both knocked down six winners, while Maddie White (Ashland), Alysha Like (McComb) and Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) all chimed in with five kills on Wednesday night. Junior Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) rifled three aces at MSJ's expense.
White handed out 22 assists, was in on a block and added 14 digs. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) paced the diggers with 28 pickups. She added five assists and served an ace. Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) and Kia Rainey (Adrian, MI/Madison) finished with nine and seven digs, respectively.
Bluffton will make the long trip to Terre Haute, Ind., for a conference matchup with Rose-Hulman on Sunday, Oct. 24. The first serve is slated for 2 p.m.
