Pirate girls edged by Big Green
The Bluffton girls basketball team was nipped 52-48 by visiting Ottoville in non-league girls basketball play Saturday afternoon, December 4.
The Lady Pirates were knocked from the undefeated ranks at 4-1 with the close loss. The Big Green improved to 1-3 with the win.
Bluffton trailed 15-9 after the opening period, and was behind 23-19 at intermission. The Pirate girls stayed within 34-31 heading to the final stanza, but couldn't close the gap.
Pirate senior Kylie Stackhouse led the team with 14 points. Classmate Sami Scoles contributed a dozen points, including eight in the final period. Senior Kylie Monday added 10 markers.
Ottoville's Elise Kramer led all scorers with 20 points. Isabelle Furley totaled 12 points on four treys. Carly Thorbahn added 11 points.
Kramer scored seven points in the fourth quarter, while Furley hit two triples and Thorbahn added four free throws down the stretch.
Kramer also hit for eight first-period points as the Green built an early lead they held throughout.
The Lady Pirates canned 21 baskets. They made 15 shots from inside the arc, and sank six shots from three-point range. Bluffton missed all four of its shots from the charity stripe (0 percent).
Ottoville made eight two-point field goals, but they drained 10 triples for 18 total baskets. They also sank six of nine foul shots (67 percent).

Bluffton plays a couple of unbeaten teams next week.
The Pirates host Delphos Jefferson (4-0, 1-0 NWC) Thursday, December 9 in their NWC opener. They then play at North Baltimore (4-0, 1-0 BVC) Saturday, Dec. 11.
