Mary Joan Crist co-founded Crist Business Machines
Mary Joan Tyson Crist, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 3:33 p.m. at the Bowling Green Bridge Hospice.
Mary Joan Tyson Crist was born on January 30, 1925, in Lima, OH. She was welcomed with love into the home of her parents, J.O. Tyson, and Eva Shultz Tyson of Ada, OH. They had her baptized when she was a baby in the Ada Methodist Church. They preceded her in death. On November 27, 1942, Joan was married to Jack F. Crist at the home of Rev. Davis in Van Wert, Ohio. After 55 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on January 8, 1998.
Joan is survived by her son, Joseph T. (Barbara) Crist of Cincinnati, OH; granddaughter, Natalie (Jeff) Crist Boerio of Cincinnati, OH; grandson, Tyson A. (Judy Marsh) Crist , Attorney of Powell, OH; daughter-in-law, Jane Thomas of Orlando, FL; step-granddaughter, Becky Edwards of Orlando, FL; six great grandchildren; two cousins: Dianne (Roger) Florida Finlay of Heath, OH and Roger (Ann) Miller, Attorney of Findlay; Jack’s nephews: Richard Kurt, Bob Kurt, Tom Crist and Mike Crist.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan C. Crist on July 10, 2008, he was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, OH. Also two aunts: Carrie Shultz Florida and Ola Shultz Miller.
Joan was a graduate of Ada High School class of 1943. She attended Ohio Northern University, Ada. She was a lifetime member of the Ada First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Leah Circle. For many years Joan was a pianist for the church. She loved music and the hymns and played the piano, organ, and oboe. Joan’s first job was at the Lima Tank Depot in the purchasing department during WWII. Joan and her husband Jack later co-founded Crist Business Machines in Lima, Ohio. She was a past member of the: Cleff Club, Quatre Club and the Eastern Stars. She lived in Ada for 92 years; in 2017 she moved to Maple Crest Court in Bluffton, Ohio. Joan was grateful to God for her wonderful parents, her loving husband of 55 years, her sons, family, and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada with Rev. Kevin Mohr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 at the funeral home in Ada.
