Bluffton girls hold on to early lead vs. Riverdale
The Bluffton High School girls basketball team used a balanced offense to defeat visiting Riverdale 48-38 in a non-conference battle Saturday afternoon, January 22.
The Lady Pirates improved to 14-4 overall with the win. Riverdale fell to 8-9 with the loss.
Bluffton led 15-10 after the first quarter as senior post Kylie Stackhouse canned three baskets. The Pirate girls extended the lead to 27-16 at halftime with a 12-6 second stanza. The teams battled to an almost-even 22-21 second half.
Freshman post Ayla Grandey led the Bluffton attack with 12 points. Senior point guard Sami Scoles contributed 10 points.
Senior wing Kylie Monday nailed two trifectas and tallied nine markers.
Pirate Riley Eachus knocked down two triples in the first half and ended up with eight points. Stackhouse finished with seven points.
Callie Sudlow was the lone Falcon in double figures with a game-high 14 points.
Mariah Bonham and Carrigan Vent each added seven markers.
The Pirates sank 18 baskets, including 13 two-pointers and five three-point goals. Bluffton converted seven of 17 free throws (41 percent).
The Falcon girls sank 13 total field goals. Riverdale hit 10 two-point attempts and made three triples.
Riverdale connected on nine of 16 free throws (56 percent).
