P-G boys lose to Fort Jennings, 33-31
The Pandora-Gilboa Rockets (8-0 BVC, 4-2 PCL, 12-7) boys basketball team let one slip away on Saturday night Feb. 12, losing a tight one on the road to Putnam County League foe Fort Jennings, 33-31.
It was a low scoring affair throughout, that saw both teams take significant leads. P-G looked to be in control late, holding an 8-point advantage into the fourth quarter, and still leading 31-30 with thirty-four seconds remaining in the game. The Musketeers comeback included a 3-pointer with under thirty seconds remaining, putting the home team ahead to stay. The Rockets had their opportunity to steal the win in the end but their 3-point shot was just off target.
P-G’s scoring leaders were senior Ryan Johnson with 9 points, all coming in the second half, and sophomore Colin Harris, who totaled 7 points. Will Huffman made two 3-pointers for his 6 points, while his cousin Eli Huffman made two shots from the floor for his 4 points. Aidan Harris finished with 3 points and Dillon Krohn closed out the scoring with 2 points.
The Rockets found themselves down 7-5 after the first eight minutes of play, as the deficit grew to 12-5 midway through the second quarter. P-G went on a scoring run to close out the first half, trimming the gap to 16-14 at the halftime intermission. P-G took their biggest lead of the contest heading into the 4th quarter, up 28-20, outscoring the Musketeers 14-4 in the third quarter.
Next up, P-G will host Putnam County League rival Continental (1-5 PCL, 7-14) on Thursday, February 17, celebrating Senior night.
Through a quirky set of Feb. 12 results, the PCL title is still on the line. Co-leaders Columbus Grove (4-2) and Leipsic (4-2) also lost on Saturday (to Miller City and Ottoville (5-2) respectively) setting up a potential 4-way tie atop the 8-team league standings.
