On February 12, the Black Swamp Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America held an Annual Meeting luncheon honoring recipients of the Silver Beaver award, including Mike Metzger of Bluffton.

The award is for registered Scouters who have "exceptional character and provides distinguished service to Scouting in the Black Swamp Area Council" and to other community programs for youth.
The Silver Beaver is the highest award the council bestows on a registered leader. Recipients are awarded a silver beaver pendant on a blue and white ribbon that is worn around the neck. A corresponding square knot patch, with a white strand over a blue strand, is worn on the BSA uniform.
Metzger is a leader in Bluffton's Boy Scout Troop 256, which has been under continuous charter since 1939. The troop's current chartering organization is American Legion Post 382.
