Letter: Invitation to create regenerative agriculture discussion group
Dear Icon readers,
Hello, my name is Matt Burkholder. I am the owner of Burkholder Healthy Farms in Allen County. I have partnered with The Nature Conservancy in an effort to be an advocate to farmers in the Maumee River watershed. I planted my first cover crop of annual rye grass in the fall of 2009. I have been diligently learning about Regenerative Agricultural practices ever since. It is my goal to begin meeting with neighboring farmers and landowners who are interested in learning more about these practices.
I would like to coordinate a small group of us to meet once every month or two throughout the year. At times those meetings could be in a field to discuss what’s going on with that particular crop. Or it could be at the local coffee shop.
Together we can learn how to improve our farming practices with no till, cover crops, and other methods which promote soil health, increase water infiltration, and improve water quality for our community and future generations.
Let’s learn together, shall we? If you are interested please contact me at [email protected] or 567-289-1897.
