Bluffton splits Tuesday games with Albion
The Bluffton University softball team split a double-header with Albion College on Wednesday, April 5. The Beavers dropped game one, 4-3, but then secured a 7-0 shutout victory in game two. Bluffton improved to 9-11 on the season, while Albion fell to 8-14.
In game one, Albion plated four runs in the first three innings for a 4-0 lead over the Beavers. An offensive fire in the bottom of the sixth saw Madison Jones (West Milton/Milton Union), Bryn Cisco (Lancaster/Fairfield Union) and Lexus Rutledge (Henderson, KY/Henderson County) cross the dish, however, the comeback came up just short as the Beavers fell to the Britons, 4-3.
Leading the Beaver offense in game one was Taylor Shimp (St. Marys/Memorial) and Kryshel Dales (Defiance/Ayersville) who both went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bobbi Adams (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) also picked up an RBI in the loss. Grace Fillinger (Hinckley/Highland) took the loss, going three innings while giving up five hits and four runs. Jones also saw a turn in the circle with four innings of two-hit, shutout relief.
Bluffton was the only team to see any runs go on the scoreboard in game two as Erin Norman (Pleasant Hill/Newton) was all over it with a five-hit, shutout win on the mound. Jones and Adams both went yard in the bottom of the first to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead early on. Hits from Sydney Zinkon (Fresno/Ridgewood), Rutledge, and Dales along with two Britton errors in the bottom of the fifth secured the 7-0 victory for the home team.
Game two was powered by Rutledge who was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Adams went 1-for-3 with an RBI and she crossed the plate twice. Jones, Zinkon and Dales also tallied an RBI each.
The Beavers are back in action on Friday, April 8 when they travel to Capital University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
