Nancy Lou Gierhart worked for the Lima Public Library
Nancy Lou Gierhart, age 84, was called into the presence of the Lord at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Van Crest of Ada with the love of her family by her side.
Nancy was born July 28, 1937 in Lima, OH, to the late Michael M. Werner and Helen Irene (Wellbaum) Werner Metzger. On June 2, 1956 she married the love of her life, Jack D. Gierhart.
Nancy was a graduate of Lima South High School and retired in 2007 from the Lima Public Library where she was the Head Librarian of the Harrod Branch. She had previously worked as a seamstress at Don Johnson Bridal, having sewn several wedding dresses for family members and she had worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Harrod, a veterinarian in Harrod, Ohio. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in LaFayette, Ohio where she served on the Altar Guild, Prayer Chain and had been a Sunday School Teacher. She also served on the funeral committee helping serve meals and she enjoyed decorating the tables for special occasions at the church. Nancy had also been active in the Boy and Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and a Girls Brownie Leader in Harrod, Ohio. She was active in the Ohio Conservation League, Board of Elections and the Harrod Happy Homes CCL. She was an active member of the Bluffton Senior Citizens where they frequently traveled doing many trips, some of which was Hawaii, Alaska, Branson, MO and Maine. She loved to read, do crafts, play cards, camp and travel with family and friends. Nancy was a devoted wife, mom and grandma who especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Jack D. Gierhart of Lima; two sons, Gregory (Mary) Gierhart of Powell, Mark (Mary) Gierhart of Harrod; two daughters, Pamela (Marty) Clum of Ada, Diana (Ken) Lugibihl of Bluffton; ten grandchildren, Matthew Gierhart, Maggie Gierhart, Jennifer Grace, Michael (Abby) Gierhart, Ryan Gierhart, Zac (Nicole) Clum, Daniel (Trisha) Clum, Sarah (Austin) Garman, Jaime Lugibihl and Alexis (Nate Skinner) Lugibihl; twenty great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Darlyn Werner.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her step-dad, Edwin Metzger and two brothers, Robert Werner and Tom Werner.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Chiles-Laman Funeral And Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel, 828 Bellefontaine Ave, Lima. Pastor Ryan Cordel will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, and from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. prior to the service on Monday, at the funeral home.
