Bluffton vs. Anderson volleyball recap
Bluffton University finished off a perfect 3-0 day when the volleyball team went the distance and then some for a 3-2 win over visiting Anderson University.
Following a 25-22 Bluffton win and then three lopsided sets, the home team rallied for an 18-16 victory in the fifth set. It capped off a day in which both Bluffton soccer teams posted identical 2-1 wins over Earlham College! The volleyball team improved to 15-6 and 3-1 in the Heartland Conference, while AU fell to 9-9 and 1-3 in the conference.
It was fitting that the night ended with Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) smashing her team-high 13th kill for point 18 in the capper! Seniors Alysha Like (McComb) and Maddie White (Ashland) both notched double figures in the spike department with 10 kills apiece. White hit .391 with just one error on 23 swings. Sophomores Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and Julianne Kincaid (Galion/Northmor) added nine and eight winners, respectively.
White and freshman Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) dished out 22 and 11 assists, respectively. They also fired two aces apiece. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) picked up a team-best 29 digs, while White completed her triple double with 18 pickups. Like was a monster at the net with six blocks, including three solos.
Bluffton will put its three-match winning streak on the line when the Beavers travel to Hanover College for a matchup with Pete Preocanin's Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 15. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
