Dorothy Balmer was a nurse at Bluffton Hospital

Dorothy Lucille Balmer, 96, passed away October 26, 2022 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. Dorothy was born July 25, 1926 in Bluffton to the late Quinten and Edna (Freyman) Burkholder. On June 12, 1947 she married Donald Balmer who preceded her in death on April 18, 2007.
Dorothy was a graduate of Bluffton High School. After graduating from nurses training at Bluffton Hospital, she worked as a LPN at Bluffton Hospital for 47 years. Dorothy was a life member of the St. John United Church of Christ, Bluffton. She enjoyed following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities. Dorothy and her husband, Donald had wintered in Florida since 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Geiger of Pandora; a son, Roger (Carol Jensen) Balmer of Mt. Cory; seven grandchildren, Jason (Chris) Vermillion of Arlington, Joshua (Becky) Vermillion of Carlsbad, California, Justin (Kristin) Vermillion of St. Petersburg, Florida, Matthew (Nikki) Balmer of Lake Osark, Missouri, Heather White of Port Clinton, Troy (Janice) Geiger of Houston, Texas, Stephen (Tauna) Geiger of Sulphur, Louisiana, and seventeen great-grandchildren, Jaret, Jake, Jase, Brett, Trevor, Breslyn and Casen Vermillion, Gavin, Morgan and MaKaila White, Chloe, Raigan and Azlin Balmer, Ryan (Shannon) Geiger and James, Samantha and Tabitha Geiger. Dorothy was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mahlon Geiger; a brother, Harry Burkholder and a sister, Margaret Montgomery.
A memorial service will held at a later date with private burial at Pleasant View Cemetery.
