Larry F. Brunswick was former superintendent of Bluffton schools
Larry F. Brunswick of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on December 16, 2022. He was born in Burkettsville, Ohio to the late Raymond and Agnes (Jacobs) Brunswick.
A graduate of St. Joseph’s College and Miami University, Larry pursued a career in education. He began as a teacher at Marion Local Schools in Maria Stein, Ohio. In 1967 he married Mary Schroer and seven years later they moved to Bluffton, Ohio. Larry served as an administrator for Bluffton Exempted Village Schools from 1974 to 1997, first as middle school principal, then as high school principal, and finally superintendent. During his tenure as superintendent, he enabled several improvements throughout the school district including building expansions to the high school and the elementary. On the state level, Larry served on the executive committee of the Ohio Association of Local School Superintendents.
Larry was an active member of the Bluffton community serving on several civic organizations including the Public Library Board, the Optimist Club, and was a member of the local golf course.
As an avid golfer, Larry always dreamed of retiring to a private golf club and in 1998 his wish came true. He and his wife moved to the golfing community of Plantation Bay in Florida, where he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement golfing several days a week.
He was predeceased by his parents and three sisters: Lois Jean Pohlmann and her husband, Leo, Betty Homan and her husband, Ivo, and Mary Kay Brunswick. Larry is survived by his wife, Mary, son Steven (Michelle) Brunswick of Suwanee, Georgia, daughter Sara Brunswick of Clinton, New Jersey, and daughter Erin (Mark) Gallego of Croton on Hudson, New York, and two grandchildren, Marcos and Rosemary Gallego. He is also survived by his brother, Lonnie Brunswick and his wife Janice of Monroe, Michigan and his sister, Dianne Dippold and her husband, John of St. Henry, Ohio.
Services were held on December 28 at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach, Florida.
